Άβολα ένιωσε ο Γιάνης Βαρουφάκης όταν ρωτήθηκε από τον παρουσιαστή του BBC, αν αληθεύει πως η σύζυγός του είναι η “μούσα” του δημιουργού του “Common People”.
Αρκέστηκε να πει πως ο ίδιος τότε δεν γνώριζε την Δανάη Στράτου, αλλά επιβεβαίωσε ότι ήταν η μοναδική Ελληνίδα σπουδάστρια στο Κολλέγιο St. Martins από το 1983 έως το 1988. Ήταν η ίδια χρονιά που ο Cocker παρακολουθούσε μαθήματα κινηματογράφου.

Νωρίτερα, ο Independent αναδημοσίευσε άρθρο της Athens Voice σύμφωνα με το οποίο, η Δανάη Στράτου είναι η πλούσια φοιτήτρια Καλών Τεχνών για την οποία ο Jarvis Cocker εγραψε την τεράστια επιτυχία των Pulp, “Common People”.
Η Δανάη Στράτου, σπούδασε στο Κολλέγιο St. Martins από το 1983 έως το 1988. Ήταν η ίδια χρονιά που ο Cocker παρακολουθούσε μαθήματα κινηματογράφου. Είχε δηλώσει το 2013 ότι γνώρισε την ελληνίδα και μάλιστα θυμηθηκε και τις είχαν συζητήσει. «Ηθελε να μετακομίσει στο Hackney και να ζήσει σαν τους κοινούς θνητούς». Αυτό ήταν και η έμπνευση για το τραγούδι του. Όμως η ταυτότητα της γυναίκας δεν είχε αποκαλυφθεί ποτέ.
Η Δανάη Στράτου εκτός από σύζυγος του Γιάνη Βαρουφάκη είναι η μεγαλύτερη κόρη του βιομηχάνου Φαίδωνα Στράτου της ιστορικής Πειραϊκής Πατραϊκής και της Ελένης Πόταγα-Στράτου, επίσης εικαστικού και γλύπτριας.
